Asperger Society Children and Parents SIG"
The Asperger Society was established in 1992. The Children and Parents SIG" was started to hold workshops for children and their parents four or five times a year. It has also provided opportunities for weekly fortnightly remedial and psychotherapy and medical treatment by clinicians ("Asperger Society Friendly Club"), when a part of children or parents need help from clinicians. There are about sixty PDD children with high-functioning ( IQ > 70 ) aged 6-15 in this group.
Our mission is to help children with PDD (Asperger Syndrome) to;
- experience relationships with others who try to respect children's uniq ueness in both relationness and fantasy, and to feel comfortable within others
- help them to develop their interpersonal skills in the real contexts.
- help them to develop their sense of self by holding their expression of their sensitivity.
- raise their motivations to study academic skill and to help them to use various skills which they have acquired in the real contexts.
Our mission is also to help parents to;
- provide mutual support.
- facilitate to learn more about the "individualities" of thier childre and to intervene the problems of child - parent interactions, to find better ways to live together.
- help to cordinate children - teachers relationships and to help to find how to treat children's problematic behaviors.
For the present, "Children and Parents SIG"is organized by clinicians.
